Outdoor Pools
Heath Park Pool and Art Widnall Pool opened for the Summer 2026 season on Friday, June 26th.
The City of Thunder Bay is home to two seasonal outdoor pools. You can also learn more about our local Beaches and Splash Pads for swim and water play, find out about jobs at Volunteer Pool, Churchill Pool or the Seasonal Outdoor Facilities, and volunteer opportunities at the pools and around the city.
Admission standards
As part of our commitment to providing safe and enjoyable aquatic programs for swimmers of all ages, we enforce the admission standards provided to us by the Ministry of Health. Please keep the following in mind when visiting our pools:
- There must be one supervising caregiver for every 2 children under the age of 7.
- There must be one supervising caregiver for every 4 non-swimming children aged 7 to 9, unless child passes the facility swim test.
- In both cases, the supervising caregiver must be 12 years of age or older and in the water within arms reach of the child. Supervising caregiver must be able to give immediate assistance.

Toonie swimming lessons are taught by Lifesaving Society qualified instructors. It is a great opportunity to learn to swim, become a better swimmer and get some exercise. Toonie Lessons will run at Art Widnall Pool Monday-Friday 11:00-11:45 starting July 6th until August 13th. *No Registration required.
