Holiday Waste and Recycling Collection ChangesGarbage and recycling collection dates for all residents and businesses will change for the weeks of Dec. 21 and Dec.
Protect Your Collector – Do Not Place Loose PPE Items in Garbage CansAs the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Thunder Bay residents are reminded to “Protect Your Collector” and not place loose items – especially used personal protective equipment (PPE) such as disposable masks and gloves –in trash cans.
“Our waste collection crews have encountered loose PPE items in garbage cans,” said Jason Sherband, the City’s Manager of Solid Waste and Recycling Services.Waste Collection Date Changes around Remembrance DayThe upcoming Remembrance Day holiday will result in waste and recycling collection in Area 1 and Area 2 to take place a day earlier during the week of Nov. 9.
Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Begins October 27The City of Thunder Bay’s curbside collection of organic leaf and yard waste will take place from Oct. 27 to Nov.
One Extra Item of Garbage Allowed Next WeekThe City will allow residents to put out a third item of garbage with no tag on the first collection date after Labour Day.
Residents are reminded to reduce waste.
Week of Canada Day Waste Collection Date ChangesThe upcoming Canada Day holiday will result in changes to waste and recycling collection in Area 1 and Area 2.
There is no collection on Canada Day, Wednesday, July 1.
City Expanding Recycling Program Effective July 1Effective July 1, the City of Thunder Bay will expand its recycling program to allow residents to recycle all #1 and #2 plastic containers.
The recycling program expansion will allow residents to recycle additional plastic items such as clamshell containers often used for salads, vegetables, berries, or pastries.
Free Compost Now Available to ResidentsCompost is now available to all residents at no charge at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility while quantities last, weather permitting.
Access to the compost pick-up area is located east of the old landfill entrance on John Street Road.
