Community Programming brings people together by fostering connection, creativity, and community pride.

From seasonal celebrations to pop-up activities, these programs are designed to be fun, inclusive, and responsive to the unique character of each neighbourhood.

In collaboration with local partners, Community Programming empowers residents to build stronger, safer, and more vibrant communities.

Together, we’re creating a city of connected communities — one neighbourhood at a time.

Neighbour Day - September 20, 2025

Neighbour Day is a wonderful way to bring neighbours together to build a strong and caring community. It allows our us to plan and host activities to celebrate our vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods. It also provides an opportunity for neighbours to form strong relationships and helps neighbourhoods become more welcoming, safe and inclusive places to live.

Pedal Forward

Thank You for Pedaling Forward with Us in 2025!

Pedal Forward is a pop-up bike program led by the City of Thunder Bay’s Culture & Events team, in partnership with Community Spokes and Active Transportation Thunder Bay. This free, drop-in initiative invites community members to repair and ride away with an upcycled bicycle — all while learning basic bike maintenance skills in a welcoming, hands-on environment.

By promoting active transportation, sustainability, and social inclusion, Pedal Forward helps improve access to bikes, encourage sustainable mobility, and strengthen community connections.

2025 Highlights:

  • Canada Day at the Waterfront: 27 bikes given away, with riders receiving hands-on repair training to build confidence and independence.

  • Summer Fun Night at Vickers Park: 11 bikes repaired and rehomed in just 3 hours!

  • Neighbour Day at Northwood Kinsmen Centre: 6 more bikes out on the road, helping more neighbours roll into fall.

Total in 2025: 44 bikes given away!

Thanks to everyone who joined us this year — together, we’re building a more connected, sustainable, and bike-friendly Thunder Bay!
