Every Sunday from December 30th - March 17th, we embrace winter by taking part in a different fun outdoor FREE activity at Prince Arthur’s Landing!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm with the Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP)!

Winter FunDays hours are 2:00pm - 4:00pm unless specified otherwise. Schedule is subject to change in situations of extreme weather.

 

Winter FunDays activity line-up:

Sunday, December 30th – Skating Party with the Thunder Bay Skating Academy

This week, the Thunder Bay Skating Academy is having a Skating Party! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing Outdoor Skating Rink with your skates to enjoy an afternoon on the rink!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: Hot Air Balloons and Future Wishes: Participants will create hot air balloons (helium-filled balloons decorated in gauze and attached to a participant created basket) and design a future wish card to put in the basket of the balloon.

 

Sunday, January 6th – Winter Programming with Parks Canada

This week, Parks Canada is offering programming! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing for some winter fun!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Sunday, January 20th – FIS World Snow Day Activities with Children and Youth

This week, Children and Youth are offering programming in celebration of FIS World Snow Day! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing for some winter fun!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: “Air” – Participants will explore the properties of air in relation to aircraft.

 

Sunday, January 27th – Dogsledding with Boreal Journeys Sled Dog Kennel from 12:00pm – 4:00pm (children aged 14 and under only)

This week, Boreal Journeys Sled Dog Kennel is offering dogsledding from 12:00pm – 4:00pm! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing – Spirit Garden to experience riding a dogsled! Please note, this activity is for children only (aged 14 and under).

The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: “Water”: An exploration of how humans and non-human animals use water as a transportation resource: Participants will explore the ways in which human swim in water; and, the different ways in which non-human animals use water as a mode of transportation and livelihood via water-painting, flow-painting, and various collage projects.

 

Sunday, February 3rd – Thunderwolves Day on the Waterfront

This week, the Lakehead University Thunderwolves will be taking the ice! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing to skate with your favourite hometown hockey players!

Sunday, February 10th – Bannock Over the Fire with the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre

This week, the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre is cooking bannock over the fire! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing to make your own homemade bannock.

Sunday, February 17th – Harry Potter in the Winter Themed Treasure Hunt with Willow Springs

This week, Willow Springs is planning a Harry Potter in the Winter Themed Treasure Hunt. Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing to find your own hidden treasures!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: Getting from Here to There – Story and Illustration Project, participants will write, design, and draw a comic book story.

 

Sunday, February 24th – Cabane à sucre with Club culturel francophone de Thunder Bay

This week, Club culturel francophone de Thunder Bay is making Cabane à sucre! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing to enjoy a sweet treat!

The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: Getting from Here to There – Story and Illustration Project, participants will write, design, and draw a comic book story.

 

Sunday, March 3rd – Winter Science Themed Stations with Science North

This week, Science North is offering a variety of winter science themed stations! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing for some winter science fun!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: “Air” (revisited) – Stich-work and Dancing Figures. Participants will learn how to stitch on soluble paper.

Sunday, March 17th – Costume Skate with All the Daze Productions         

This week, All The Daze Productions is encouraging individuals to come out dressed in your favourite costume and have some fun on the rink! Head on down to Prince Arthur’s Landing to skate with your favourite characters!

After you've enjoyed the Winter FunDay activity outside, you can warm up with a creative activity inside the Baggage Building Arts Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. The Community Arts & Heritage Education Project (CAHEP) will be offering the following craft activity: Making Travel Bags. Participants will create travel bags, which may involve cutting out patterns, sewing/stitching parts together, painting and decorating the bags. Younger participants will be shown how to cut and sew bags but will not use scissors or needles without adult supervision. All participants will decorate their own bags.
