Scheduled work on Edward Street between Ward Avenue and William Street will begin on Wednesday, June 9. The initial phase of the construction work will replace the existing watermain through the Edward Street and Redwood Avenue intersection.

In February 2021, Mayor Bill Mauro declared a second state of emergency for the City of Thunder Bay to request immediate assistance from the Province regarding the surge of COVID-19 among the city’s vulnerable population at that time.

On June 7, 2021, that second state of emergency has been rescinded as the numbers of those in the vulnerable population that require isolation have remained steady and low for the past several weeks, and sufficient resources have been secured by community partners to.

Back by popular demand, weekend closures of West Lyon Boulevard return this summer, providing cyclists and pedestrians with more space to enjoy. Effective immediately, road closure signage and barricades will be in place every weekend from Friday at 4 pm to Monday at 8 am to prevent vehicular traffic from entering the roadway.

A report from the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) and City Administration will be presented to City Council on June 7 that will recommend expanding the Eye on the Street program, including installing new cameras in strategic locations, upgrading the hardware and network, and increasing the number and locations of cameras.

In operation since 2005, the Eye on the Street program is a community public safety initiative that provides closed-circuit video monitoring for safety and security purposes.
