Sponsors Sought for Aboriginal Youth Trip to China
June 27, 2015 – The Aboriginal Liaison Unit is looking for sponsors to bring 10 Aboriginal youth to Jiaozou, China, to represent the Aboriginal community and the City of Thunder Bay and Canada during opening ceremonies at an international Tai Chi competition and festival in August.
“The Aboriginal Liaison Unit was approached by Peng You, a resident of Thunder Bay and native of China, about coordinating a small delegation of six dancers and four drummers, who would share their culture with the people.
Section of River Street to Close for Storm Sewer ConstructionJune 29, 2015 – River Street from Rockwood Avenue to Pine Street will close to through traffic on Thursday, July 2, to facilitate storm sewer construction.
The work is expected to take one day to complete.
Repairs to Boulevard Lake Trail to Begin This WeekJune 29, 2015 – Work to restore the section of trail around Boulevard Lake where asphalt cracking appeared this spring will commence on Tuesday, June 30.
The section of trail is on the southwest side of the lake, near the intersection of Lyon Boulevard and Arundel Street.
City Announces 2015 Canada Day FestivitiesJune 25, 2015 - The Recreation & Culture Division on Thursday announced details of the upcoming Canada Day festivities, which are scheduled for Wednesday, July 1, at Prince Arthur's Landing at Marina Park.
With past attendance estimates of over 20,000, Canada Day remains Thunder Bay's largest annual single-day event.
Section of Rosslyn Road to be Closed Over the WeekendJune 25, 2015 – Rosslyn Road from Neebing Avenue to 20th Sideroad will close the weekend of June 27 and 28 to allow crews to repair a water main.
The closure is scheduled to come into effect at 8 am Saturday, June 27, and is expected to last until 8 pm on Sunday, June 28.
Clean, Green & Beautiful Transit Facility ReopensJune 24, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay celebrates the grand re-opening of the Transit Maintenance Facility located at 570 Fort William Road. Clean, Green & Beautiful investments were made to the facility to better integrate specialized transit services, update the aged building, expand bus operator amenities, invest in green space, and create training areas for fleet, employees and the public.
City Manager Retiring end of October 2015June 23, 2015 - After seven years, City Manager Tim Commisso announced today he is retiring at the end of October 2015.
"He is a dedicated City Manager and has been an effective Administrative leader and advisor to successive City Councils," said Mayor Keith Hobbs.
Floodway Walking Trail Closing due to DredgingJune 19, 2015 - The walking trail on the north side of the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway from Island Drive east to the lakeshore will close to the public as of Wednesday, June 25 while the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) dredges the floodway.
The LRCA, which is responsible for dredging the floodway and owns the property on either bank, has indicated the fill will need to be stored on the trail until it's hauled away in the fall.

The closure is expected to be in effect from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
