  • Canada 150 Celebration Garden Planted at Soroptimist International Friendship Gardens

    October 18, 2016 - The City of Thunder Bay is the fortunate recipient of two of 150 "Canada 150 Celebration Gardens" being distributed across Canada by the Canadian Garden Council to commemorate Canada's sesquicentennial in 2017.

    Thunder Bay's Soroptimist International Friendship Gardens, and Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged, have each received 1,000 tulip bulbs - 500 red and 500 white - to be used to create "Celebration Gardens" which will bloom next year.

  • Road Work Continues on Edward Street at Churchill Drive

    October 18, 2016 - Road and storm sewer construction taking place at the intersection of Edward Street and Churchill Drive has been extended into next week.

    Edward Street is closed to north/south traffic flow during this period.

    October 13, 2016 - The reconnection of a watermain will necessitate the closure of John Street from Valley Street to Mercier Street on Monday, Oct. 17, between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm.

  • Share Your Views on Age Friendly Community-Wide Action Plan

    October 14, 2016 - Age Friendly Thunder Bay is encouraging residents of all ages to attend the second Seniors Summit on November 15 and participate in a planning workshop to help narrow down action items for the Age Friendly Community-Wide Action Plan.

    The first Seniors Summit was held in June, and hundreds of residents shared their views to help develop a Needs Assessment Report.

  • Residents Encouraged to Take Action to Reduce House Fires

    October 12, 2016 - As part of Fire Prevention Week October 9 to 15, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) are encouraging residents to take action to reduce the risk of house fires.

    "In a matter of minutes a home can be completely engulfed in flames," said Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Chief John Hay.

    October 12, 2016 - To accommodate removal of the asphalt and concrete road base near Gibson Avenue, northbound traffic on Cumberland Street will be detoured around Boulevard Lake on Saturday, Oct. 15.

  • Kingsway School Helps Kick-Off Fire Prevention Week

    October 11, 2016 "” Thunder Bay Fire Rescue kicked-off National Fire Prevention Week at Kingsway Elementary School today. Grade 4 students at Kingsway educated a gymnasium full of classmates, teachers, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue personnel and Mayor Keith Hobbs on the importance of working smoke alarms and home fire safety.

  • City Archives Celebrates Women's History Month

    October 7, 2016 - During the month of October, the Status of Women Canada celebrates Women's History Month and City Archives is re-launching an on-line exhibit to recognize women who have contributed to the history of Thunder Bay.

    "Annually, new women are profiled in the exhibit and the community is invited to submit names, profiles and photos to add to the exhibit on an annual basis," said City Archivist Matt Szybalski.
