WHEREAS, The monarch butterfly is an iconic North American species whose
multigenerational migration and metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly has captured the
imagination of millions of Canadians; and

WHEREAS, Eastern migrating monarch populations visiting Ontario have seen significant
population declines by as much as ninety percent; and

WHEREAS, On December 8, 2023 the Government of Canada uplisted the Migratory
Monarch Butterfly (Danaus plexippus) as Endangered on Schedule..

The Stanley Cup will return to Thunder Bay this year, with 2023-2024 Stanley Cup Champion Jamie Kompon, Assistant Coach of the Florida Panthers, taking part in a community event with Lord Stanley’s Cup.

The public will have the chance to view and have their photo taken with the Stanley Cup on Wednesday, September 11 from 3 – 5 pm at Port Arthur Stadium.
