The City of Thunder Bay is proud to celebrate a century of golf, community, and local heritage at Strathcona Golf Course, marking its 100^th anniversary on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the course’s grounds, located at 500 Hodder Avenue.

The celebration will take place from 11 am – 12 pm, at the putting green and will feature remarks from local dignitaries, community representatives, and members of the golf community.

The City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that Stage 2 of the Burwood Road reconstruction will begin Monday, July 14. As part of this work, Burwood Road will be closed at Central Avenue, with local traffic access maintained from Oliver Road only.

This decision follows a comprehensive process that began in 2022 when City Council endorsed a human rights-based approach to encampments.

Thunder Bay Transit is temporarily moving operations from the Waterfront Transit Terminal to a nearby location on Cumberland Street North starting Monday, July 14, 2025. This change is needed to allow for upgrades to the current terminal.

In response to the significant damage caused by the July 1 storm event, the City is offering vouchers for one free tipping fee at the Solid Waste & Recycling Facility (Landfill) available for yard waste only, for affected households.

“We understand that the clean-up may take several weeks and that it involves a large volume of  trees, limbs and branches,” said Jason Sherband, Manager – Solid Waste & Recycling Services.
