As a result of the recent warm weather, ice conditions at the City’s outdoor rinks have significantly deteriorated and as such all outdoor rinks (with the exception of the rink at Prince Arthur’s Landing) have been temporarily closed.

Lights will be turned off, change rooms will be closed and residents are asked to stay off the ice surfaces.

The City of Thunder Bay in cooperation with the Ontario Traffic Council’s School Crossing Programs Committee is excited to announce the expansion of the annual School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day into a week-long celebration, officially named School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week. 

Running from June 3rd to June 7th, 2024, this initiative aims to shine a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who tirelessly ensure the safety of our children as they journey to and from school.

The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that the City has reached a tentative Memorandum of Settlement with its largest union, Local 87 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Subject to ratification by the CUPE members, the deal is expected to be presented to City Council for ratification on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The proposed 2024 Municipal Budget was released to the public today during a presentation at City Hall. This year’s budget, that forms the starting point for City Council’s detailed review, provides an increase in the municipal tax levy after growth of $12.1 million or 5.5%.
