Updates to Rainbow Crosswalk Installations
The City of Thunder Bay and Thunder Pride continue to work together for successful installation of the City’s first Pride Crosswalks.
Additional blocks of colour were added recently to the crosswalk at the intersection of Bay Street and Algoma Avenue, and more material will also be added to the Transgender Crosswalk.
Road Closures Ahead as Installation of Pride Crosswalks BeginsInstallation of Pride crosswalks began at two intersections: the first at the intersection of Bay Street and Algoma Street, and the second at the intersection of Donald Street and May Street.
The crosswalk painting will necessitate partial road closures at each location until work is complete.

City Invites Feedback on 55 Plus ProgramsThe City of Thunder Bay is gathering resident feedback as it works on reopening plans for 55 Plus centre programs. No reopening date has been set at this time for the centres, which were closed at the start of the pandemic.

Update on Forest Fire EvacueesThe City of Thunder Bay received 54 evacuees Tuesday from Red Lake, in response to a 420-hectare forest fire just outside that town, and is preparing today to receive up to 200 Stage One or vulnerable population evacuees from Eabametoong First Nation. Stage One evacuees include persons with disabilities, seniors, children and pregnant women.

55 Plus Centre Volunteers Recognized NationallyThe Thunder Bay 55 Plus Centre volunteers have received the Community Leader Award as part of the 2019 Canada’s Volunteer Awards issued by the Government of Canada. The Centre’s volunteers were recognized for their role in preventing social isolation among older adults and contributing to positive physical, social and mental well-being.
City to Host Red Lake Forest Fire EvacueesThe City of Thunder Bay is preparing to receive evacuees from Red Lake today due to the close proximity of the 420 hectares forest fire which is burning less than 5 km south of the town and poses an immediate threat to public safety.
“Thunder Bay will do everything we can to support our neighbouring community as they face this dire situation,” said Mayor Bill Mauro.
