Strong Budgetary Performance Raises City's Credit Rating
June 29, 2017 - Thunder Bay's strong budgetary performance, effective cost controls, low municipal debt burden, and excellent liquidity balances have led S&P Global Ratings (formerly Standard & Poor's) to raise the City`s credit rating from "˜AA-"˜ to "˜AA'.
"This is great news for residents, and demonstrates that the City of Thunder Bay continues to manage finances in a very responsible manner"Ž with respect for public dollars, by another good financial report card," said Mayor Keith.
#NotInMyTbay - Incident Reporting Launch TodayJune 27, 2017 - Have you experienced or witnessed racism in Thunder Bay?
The City of Thunder Bay's Anti-Racism & Respect Advisory Committee's Incident Reporting Working Group, in partnership with Diversity Thunder Bay and Lakehead Social Planning 211, launched a tool today that will allow those who experience or witness racism to report it.
"The Committee is launching this one-year pilot project to give those witnessing or experiencing racism an outlet to report the incident in a way that is appropriate.
Item Limit for Garbage Changing Effective July 1June 26, 2017 - Effective July 1, the item limit for garbage will be reduced to two items instead of three. An item consists of either one garbage bag or the contents of one can, as long as the items do not exceed the weight limit of 18kg/40lbs.
Age Friendly Thunder Bay Launches GIANTs ProjectJune 23, 2017 - The Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) has awarded the City of Thunder Bay a grant of $25,000 to empower seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experience with others and enable seniors to age in their homes confidently and comfortably.
The GIANTs (Grand Individuals Aging with Neighbours in Thunder Bay) project, coordinated by Age Friendly Thunder Bay, will focus on addressing social isolation among seniors by encouraging them to talk with other seniors.
EarthCare and the City Recognized for Environmental ExcellenceJune 22, 2017 - EarthCare and the City of Thunder Bay were awarded the 2016 Minister's Award for Environmental Excellence, in recognition of their work on the Climate Adaptation Strategy.
The Award recognizes innovation in environmental excellence that fosters collective action between government, individuals, industry and business to achieve Ontario's environmental goals and priorities.
Grants Create Opportunity for School Greening & BeautificationJune 21, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay's Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee was pleased to present six secondary schools with grants up to a maximum of $1,000 through the 2016 - 2017 Green & Beautiful School Grant Program earlier this year. Today, Wednesday, June 21, the schools presented their greening and beautification projects funded by the grants to the Clean, Green and Beautiful Committee at City Hall.

Community Invited to Show Support for Games BidJune 20, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay submitted a bid proposal on June 16 to host the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.
The bid theme is "Hearts of Gold" to highlight Thunder Bay's community spirit and the the City's 50th Golden Anniversary year in 2020.
