The ninth annual national Culture Days event runs in Thunder Bay this Friday, Sept. 28, through Sunday Sep.

The 2018 Mayor’s Mulligan Golf Tournament announced today that $13,370 was raised during this year’s event in support of PRO Kids. This bringing the total raised in the past 14 years to over $193,000 for charitable organizations.

September 26, 2018 – Voter Instruction Letters (VILs) have begun arriving by mail to eligible Thunder Bay electors currently on the voters’ list for the upcoming 2018 Municipal & School Board Election. 

VILs contain important information on how, when and where to vote, and will be required along with identification to cast a ballot online, by telephone and at the polling station.

SEPTEMBER 25, 2018

WHEREAS, in May 18th, 2010, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario enacted the Franco-Ontarian Day Act, 2010 proclaiming September 25 in each year as the Franco-Ontarian Day; and

WHEREAS, the Franco-Ontarian Day Act recognizes that Franco-Ontarians commemorate September 25 to celebrate their language and heritage and also take pride in their collective accomplishments.  September 25 is the anniversary of the first unveiling of the Franco-Ontarian flag in Sudbury in 1975; the Franco-Ontarian.

WHEREAS, Public – Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada and the United States from September 23 to 29, 2018; and

WHEREAS, it is in the public’s interest to raise citizens’  awareness on reducing avoidable accidents, injuries and damage caused by collisions at level crossings or incidents involving trains and citizens; and

WHEREAS, Operation Lifesaver is a public/private partnership whose aim is to work with the rail industry, governments, police services, the media..

September 25, 2018 – The Thunder Bay Crime Prevention Council is calling for nominations for the Eighth Annual Mayor’s Community Safety Awards, which recognize Thunder Bay residents and groups who are working to make our city safer.

Nominations officially open today, and the deadline for submissions is Oct.

Members of the Working Group for Seven Youth Inquest Recommendation 115 (Watercourse and River Safety Audits) will welcome over 200 Indigenous youth to take part in cultural teachings related to water, a sunrise ceremony, a sacred fire, a round dance, the Matawa Drum, a barbecue and more.

Youth will be attending from Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, Matawa Learning Centre, Lakehead Public Schools and Thunder Bay Catholic School Board, as well as staff, elders and other community members.
