Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit Update
May 2, 2017 - The Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit officially closed Monday as approved during the 2017 Municipal Budget deliberations.
Following is an update on the animals:
Transfers of the animals from the Chippewa Wildlife Exhibit are being coordinated through an animal transporter, who has already transferred four foxes and one bobcat.
Citizen Satisfaction Survey UnderwayMay 2, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay has commissioned Ipsos, a professional public opinion research company, to conduct the 2017 Citizen Satisfaction Survey by telephone to a random selection of residents.
The survey will take place over the next two weeks and includes a wide range of topics including the most important issues facing the community, quality of like, importance of and satisfaction with municipal services, and communication needs.
Carbon Monoxide Alarms Provide Early WarningMay 2, 2017 - Thunder Bay Fire Rescue have responded to four homes for carbon monoxide (CO) alarm calls in the past 14 days that were the result of CO being present in the residence. In each incident the occupants were alerted to the CO emergency by their CO alarms.
City Celebrates Youth and Arts in Our CommunityMay 1, 2017 - The City of Thunder Bay kicked off National Youth Week with an official proclamation at City Hall today. Youth Week takes place annually from May 1 - 7, and celebrates the positive contributions that youth make to their communities, their achievements, and their volunteerism.
Garbage Collection Resumes FridayApril 28, 2017 - Garbage collection has resumed today, and all residents with Friday pickup on their Waste Collection Calendar can put their garbage at the curb as usual.
Residents can expect some delays throughout the day due to poor winter driving conditions.
Second Installment of 2017 Tax Bill DueApril 28, 2017 - The second installment of the 2017 tax bill is due on Wednesday, May 3. The interim tax billing is based on 50 per cent of your 2016 tax rate and 2016 assessment.
Kashechewan First Nation Evacuees Take-in Thunder BayApril 27, 2017 - On April 17, Thunder Bay began receiving Kashechewan First Nation evacuees due to the spring flood. Thunder Bay is currently hosting 65 guests from Kashechewan, and due to weather conditions, no further arrivals are anticipated in the coming days.
Update on Status of City Services Due to Freezing Rain7 AM EST - April 27, 2017 - Significant ice build-up overnight due to a long-lasting period of freezing rain has temporarily suspended some City services and closed some City facilities.
"Our crews have been working very hard throughout the night to manage icy conditions on city roads and sidewalks," said Norm Gale, City Manager.Freezing Rain Storm Update: City Services Affected by WeatherApril 26, 2017 - Due to continued freezing rain and ice pellets associated with a late season ice storm, City services and facilities have been affected today, and may continue through Thursday afternoon.
Thunder Bay Police Service is strongly recommending that citizens limit travel due to the severe ice storm that is making roadways and walkways hazardous.
