City Announces Line-up of Winter FunDays Activities
The City of Thunder Bay is excited to announce the activity line-up for Winter FunDays, presented by 99.9 The Bay and Country 105. Winter FunDays start Sunday, Dec. 30, at Prince Arthur’s Landing and run every Sunday until March 17, 2019, from 2 pm to 4 pm unless specified otherwise.

Male Students Pledge to End Violence against WomenIn recognition of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women, which marks the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, the Thunder Bay Crime Prevention Council and partners created a short video featuring male student leaders from grade seven to 10 speaking out about gender-based violence.

Male Students Attend Training on Gender-based Violence
Nearly 50 grade seven to 10 male students from Lakehead Public Schools throughout the city are attending the Engaging Male Students to Reduce and Prevent Gender-Based Violence workshop today aimed at preventing gender-based violence against women and girls.

Cold Water and Ice WarningWith the winter weather now upon us, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is encouraging parents, guardians and teachers to speak to their children about the dangers of walking on ice-covered bodies of water and the risk of injury or death associated with exposure to freezing cold water.
Ice conditions throughout the winter should always be considered dangerous, but they are especially dangerous early in the season as thick ice has not yet formed.

Court of Appeal Dismisses CN’s Motion for StayThe Court of Appeal for Ontario has dismissed CN’s request to stay, or postpone, the court’s order made in June 2018, which required CN to reopen the James Street Bridge for vehicle traffic and maintain the bridge in accordance with the 1906 agreement. Mayor Keith Hobbs today made the following statement in response:

Fire Chief Concerned Over Recent Fire DeathsIn less than a three-week period, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue had four fire deaths as a result of three separate fire incidents. The first death occurred on October 15 in a fire at a town house on Trillium Way, the second and third death resulted from a mobile home fire on October 28 on Taylor Drive, and the most recent fire death occurred in a house fire on November 3 on Walkover St.
