The City of Thunder Bay has received $2,915,335 from the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation (OLG) for Fiscal 2025, as part of its hosting agreement with Gateway Casino Thunder Bay.
This contribution reflects Thunder Bay’s role as a host community for the casino, which draws thousands of visitors each year for gaming and entertainment while supporting local jobs. OLG provides payments to host municipalities based on a share of slot machine and table game revenues, helping to fund essential municipal services and operations.
The funding formula is applied consistently across all gaming sites in Ontario and is calculated using a graduated scale tied to gaming revenue at each location.
“OLG is proud to be a vital part of the City of Thunder Bay. Since the organization’s start in 1975, 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial priorities. From critical infrastructure to important local programs like the community aquatic program to community festivals, OLG’s profits are hard at work in the City of Thunder Bay and across our province to build stronger communities. We also appreciate the contribution of gaming employees at Gateway Casinos Thunder Bay who are making life in your community that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario,” said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager.
Gateway Casino Thunder Bay first opened in August 2000 and has contributed more than $60 million to the City since that time. These funds have supported a range of municipal initiatives, including specific programs and general revenue needs.
“OLG contributions provide an important source of non-tax revenue for the City of Thunder Bay,” said Keri Greaves, City Treasurer and Commissioner of Corporate Services. “This revenue contributes to initiatives that have a direct impact on programs and services across the community.”
