Stanley Cup returns to Thunder Bay

The Stanley Cup will return to Thunder Bay this year, with 2023-2024 Stanley Cup Champion Jamie Kompon, Assistant Coach of the Florida Panthers, taking part in a community event with Lord Stanley’s Cup.
The public will have the chance to view and have their photo taken with the Stanley Cup on Wednesday, September 11 from 3 – 5 pm at Port Arthur Stadium. Seasonal closures for pools, beaches, and splash pads

With fall quickly approaching, the City will begin adjusting hours for indoor pools and closing outdoor pools, beaches, and splash pads, starting with Sandy Beach at Chippewa Park, and the Main Beach at Boulevard Lake, closing this weekend on Aug 31, followed by Art Widnall and Heath pools on Sept. 1.

Treasure Exchange Days coming September 7 & 8

The City’s twice-yearly Treasure Exchange Days event will take place on Sept. 7 & 8. Residents with used items in good condition that they wish to give away may leave them on the curb any time after 5 pm on Friday, Sept. 6, labelled “free.” Residents can then tour their neighbourhoods over the weekend to find treasures.

Volunteer Pool to temporarily close due to vandalism

Volunteer Pool Community Centre is temporarily closed today due to an act of vandalism. During the evening (Aug. 28), the glass of a large patio door was broken at the facility, resulting in shattered glass in and around the pool, making it unsafe for use. The pool will be closed today and is expected to reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 4 to allow crews to work on clean-up and repair.
