City Issues Extreme Cold Weather Alert to Community

Environment Canada has issued a Weather Alert for the Thunder Bay area, with dangerously cold wind chill values expected to reach -40 C to -45 C beginning tonight and continuing into the weekend. This extreme cold is expected to last approximately 48–72 hours.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk, with increased dangers for infants and young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, outdoor workers, and individuals without proper shelter, clothing, or food.

Christmas tree drop-off sites to open on Boxing Day

Each year, the City of Thunder Bay offers a Christmas tree chipping program from Boxing Day to Jan. 12.
Fresh-cut Christmas trees can be dropped off at several locations across the city, where they will be collected and chipped, and transported to the compost area at the City's landfill site. In the spring, when compost is mature, the City provides compost to residents - free - to enrich flower gardens and lawns.
