As large banners were unveiled at City Hall today, officials announced that Hydro One will be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2024 Ontario Winter Games. As Ontario’s largest multi-sport event, the Games will take place from February 16 - 26, 2024, at sporting venues across Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay was awarded the 2024 Ontario Winter Games by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport through a competitive bid process.

“We are thrilled to have Hydro One as our presenting sponsor for this exciting event, and we are grateful for their commitment to making the 2024 Ontario Winter Games a success,” said Tracie Smith, Co-Chair, Ontario Winter Games Organizing Committee.

“Together with Hydro One, we look forward to delivering an unforgettable experience for all participants,’ said Barry Streib, Co-Chair, Ontario Winter Games Organizing Committee “Thank you once again!”

“Hydro One believes in the power of sport and is proud to play a role in supporting an event that energizes the community and brings thousands of athletes together to compete amongst the brightest in Ontario,” said Jay Armitage, Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Hydro One. “We congratulate the City of Thunder Bay for hosting this celebration that will shine a light on this thriving and growing city.”

As a showcase of amateur sport in Ontario, the Games provide top young athletes with development and competitive opportunities to prepare them for national and international competition. The Ontario Winter Games were first delivered in 1970 by the City of Etobicoke, and last held in Thunder Bay in 1974.

The Games are supported by the Ontario Government through its Games Ontario program. This program delivers and supports multi-sport events, including the Ontario Winter and Summer Games for youth, the Ontario 55+ Winter and Summer Games and the Ontario Parasport Games.
