Live on the Waterfront, presented by Ontario Power Generation, returns to Marina Park this Wednesday, August 12, from 6 pm – 9 pm, featuring Alt Folk. 

This week’s energetic theme features a mix of local talent and award-winning out-of-town performers:

  • 6:00 pm – Katherine Nemec: Katherine Nemec is a Northern Ontario vocalist and singer-songwriter whose music blends pop, folk, and rock with emotionally honest lyrics and polished artistry. In 2024, she made her orchestral solo debut with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra’s Northern Lights series and released her debut EP, Glow. In 2025, she performed a headlining concert at Magnus Theatre’s outdoor stage and was featured at Live on the Waterfront’s Summer Send-Off.
  • 7:00 pm – Raven Reid: Indigenous folk singer-songwriter Raven Reid creates soulful, reflective music rooted in lived experience, cultural truth, and resilience. Born in Yellowknife with ancestral ties to the Mikisew First Nation in Alberta, Raven began writing as a child and later taught herself guitar, blending poetry with music. A Sixties Scoop survivor, her songs explore healing, identity, and hope. In 2025, she released two singles, Stumbling Fool and 215, recorded at CBC Studios through the CBC Reverie Indigenous Music Residency, and earned three Saskatchewan Music Award nominations.
  • 8:00 pm – Shred Kelly: Shred Kelly is a Canadian Rockies-based band known for its high-energy blend of alternative, folk, and rock. A mainstay in the Canadian music scene, the band pairs captivating live performances with heartfelt songwriting shaped by each member’s eclectic influences. In 2024, they performed at Ottawa Bluesfest, Northern Lights Festival Boreal, Kaslo Jazz Etc. Festival, Between the Peaks, and South Country Fair, along with a 17-date album release tour across Canada. 

This outdoor concert series runs every Wednesday until August 26, followed by the Live on the Waterfront: Summer Send-Off on August 27, which will include a Drone Light Show in partnership with the Thunder Bay Airport. 

This free-to-attend event brings together music lovers of all ages to celebrate local talent, artists from across Canada, and the spirit of summer in Thunder Bay.  It supports the Attraction Pillar of the Smart Growth Action Plan by offering recreation and tourism attractions that celebrate Thunder Bay’s diverse population and multicultural heritage, providing opportunities for vendors, and showcasing local music, food, arts and culture.
