The City of Thunder Bay is inviting interested residents and business community members to apply to join the Temporary Shelter Village Neighbourhood Liaison Committee.

The committee will bring together the Temporary Shelter Village and the surrounding neighbourhood to support open communication, relationship-building, and constructive discussions as the Village becomes part of the community.

Residents with a connection to the area and representatives of businesses located near the site (879 Alloy Place) are eligible to apply. The committee will also include representatives from the Thunder Bay Police Service, agencies who provide services at the Village, the City, and the Village’s third-party operator.

Applications are now available at thunderbay.ca/village, or in paper copy at City Hall and branches of the Thunder Bay Public Library. The deadline to apply is September 27, 2026, at 11:59 pm.

To help reach nearby residents, postcards promoting the open application process are being mailed to residential addresses within approximately 500 metres of the Temporary Shelter Village. Applications are not limited to postcard recipients and are open to anyone who has a connection to the surrounding area, including residents, businesses and community members.

The Neighbourhood Liaison Committee is an advisory forum that will provide input and recommendations for consideration by the City and its partners. Members will be expected to attend monthly meetings, and share their experiences and perspectives respectfully.

The Temporary Shelter Village is part of the City’s work to address homelessness and support unhoused community members; a municipal priority identified in both the Community Safety & Well-Being Plan and Smart Growth Action Plan.
