April 23, 2015 -The owner of a North Norah Street multi-unit residential building pled guilty in Provincial Court yesterday for failing to comply with an Inspection Order written by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.  After pleading guilty the owner was issued a fine of $5,000 plus Court costs.

The charge relates to a routine inspection by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue in which an Inspection Order was issued to comply with numerous Fire Code violations. When the compliance date had elapsed, four violations remained outstanding and charges were laid.  All Fire Code violations have since been corrected.  Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds all building owners that they are responsible to comply with the Ontario Fire Code.

"Failing to comply with an inspection order can result in a fine of up to $20,000 for every day you are not compliant," said Fire Chief John Hay. "By property owners ensuring their buildings are in compliance with the Fire Code, lives and property will be saved in the event of a fire."
