As the Province enters Stage 2 of its reopening plan, the City wants to remind building owners and operators to maintain water safety when reopening. While the City is responsible to provide clean, safe drinking water to each building, it is the responsibility of each building owner to ensure it maintains the safety of the water within their building.
When buildings are closed or have low occupancy for a prolonged period of time, water in the building becomes stagnant and can pose serious health risks. Harmful microbiological and chemical contaminants can grow or leach into water supply.
The City of Thunder Bay’s Water Authority strongly advises building owners/operators to refer and follow the Safely Re-Opening Buildings - A Fact Sheet for Building Owners/Operators, which was developed by the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association, prior to re-opening. The Fact Sheet is available at: www.thunderbay.ca/water
