Eligible candidates, who filed their nomination papers prior to the August 21, 2:00 p.m. deadline in the races for Mayor, At Large Councillor, and Ward Councillor in the 2026 Thunder Bay Municipal Election have been certified by the Acting Returning Officer.

Eligible candidates were also certified for the English Public and English Separate school board elections.

The French Public School Board will have its sole candidate acclaimed to office, while the French Separate election received less nominations than required for the number of seats available. Nominations will reopen for that office only, on Wednesday, August 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Interested candidates can access nomination forms via the City’s website or at City Hall.  No appointments are necessary to file nomination papers on Wednesday, August 26 prior to the 2:00 pm deadline.

Certification of Candidates

  • As required by the Municipal Elections Act 1996, all candidates must be examined and certified.
  • Attached is the list of certified candidates for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election. 

Acclamations to Office

  • The Returning Officer has declared the following candidates for French Separate School Board to be acclaimed as per Section 37 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996: Angéle Desbiens, Claudette Gleeson, Elodie Grunerud and Victoria Mauro
  • The Returning Officer has also declared following candidate for French Public School Board to be acclaimed as per Section 37 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996: Anne-Marie Gélineault.

Extension of Nomination Period   French Separate School Board only

  • If the number of nominations filed for an office and certified is less than the number of persons to be elected to the office, additional nominations may be filed.
  • Notice is hereby provided to the public that the French Separate School Board currently has less than the number of persons required to be elected to that office. 
  • Nominations will only be accepted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Aug. 26
