WHEREAS Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) is the official advisor to the Government of Ontario on childhood cancer care, providing wraparound care for children and youth with cancer and their families from diagnosis, through treatment, into survivorship and when needed, end-of-life care

WHEREAS there are approximately 500 children and youth (aged 0-17) diagnosed with cancer in a pediatric cancer program in Ontario each year

WHEREAS there are over 4,500 families in Ontario with a child in cancer treatment or follow-up care each year

WHEREAS cancer remains the most common cause of disease-related deaths among children in Ontario aged 1 year or older

WHEREAS the POGO Satellite Clinic and POGO Interlink Nursing Program at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre provide childhood cancer care closer to home for children and youth with cancer in Northwestern Ontario

NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim September 2026 as “Childhood Cancer Awareness Month” in the City of Thunder Bay.
