Following delays caused by extended winter weather and debris accumulation, Thunder Bay’s on-street bike lanes are now open for the season. They will remain in service until November 15, 2025, weather permitting. During this time, parking restrictions in designated bike lanes will be enforced, please check local signage for details.
With warmer weather and rising fuel prices, drivers can expect to see more cyclists on city streets. Motorists are reminded to stay alert, respect bike lanes, and share the road by yielding at intersections, allowing safe passing distance, and reducing speed near cyclists.
Thunder Bay features 69 kilometres of on-road cycling facilities and 60 kilometres of multi-use trails as part of its Active Transportation Network. Choosing active transportation not only improves personal health and wellness, but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and household transportation costs — all while supporting a healthier, more vibrant, and inclusive community.
