December 5, 2025 – The City of Thunder Bay is advising the public of a delay in the construction of the new Waterfront Transit Terminal. Due to delays in receiving key materials, we now expect completion of the terminal in February 2026.
During this extended construction period, the City will continue to ensure that transit riders have safe and accessible boarding areas. Snow removal and clearing around the temporary transit stops on Cumberland Street will continue, including windrow removal, sidewalk clearing, and maintenance around the temporary bus shelters. The City is also working to add an additional temporary bus shelter on Cumberland Street to support passengers during the winter months.
“While construction continues, our team remains focused on keeping riders informed and supported throughout this period,” said Amanda Nason, Supervisor – Customer Care & Administrative Services. “We sincerely thank the public for their patience and understanding as we complete this important project that will improve the transit experience in our community.”
This transit terminal project is part of the City’s broader Transforming Thunder Bay Transit initiative, which includes improving passenger experience, modernizing infrastructure, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
