For the second year in a row, the City of Thunder Bay has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2026 Budget.
The award encourages municipal governments across Canada to prepare budget documents and presentations that meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. To earn this recognition, budget documents must serve as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, as well as enhance budget communications.
As an independent third-party assessment, GFOA’s award affirms the City’s commitment to excellence in financial planning and transparency. It reflects our efforts to present budget information in a manner that is clear, comprehensive, and consistent with recognized best practices.
“This accomplishment is the result of a collaborative effort across the organization. Thank you to our Finance team, Senior Leadership Team, and staff who contribute throughout the year to the development, implementation, and stewardship of the City’s budget,” said Keri Greaves, Commissioner – Corporate Services & City Treasurer.
“To be recognized for the second year in a row is a significant achievement for the City and reflects our continued commitment to financial accountability and transparency.”
As Thunder Bay advances its Smart Growth Action Plan, clear and transparent budgeting helps support informed decision-making and public confidence in the City’s long-term priorities.
