December 18, 2025 – Most of the City’s outdoor boarded skating rinks will be open for public use on Friday, December 19, 2025. This includes the eight Parks Supervised locations and the Vickers Park skating loop. Snow will be cleared from all sites in the event of a snowfall before the rinks open.

The City’s Parks & Open Spaces division operates and maintains 31 outdoor skating rink locations across the community. The status for each site will be updated in real time as the remaining rink sites become ready to open, or if they must be closed due to warm temperature conditions throughout the season.

The following Parks Supervised sites will be open or supervised from 1:00 to 9:00 pm on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day:

  • Carrick Park
  • North End Community Centre
  • West End
  • West Thunder Community Centre
  • James Street Playfield

All remaining supervised sites will be closed or unsupervised on the following days:

  • Wednesday, December 24 to Friday, December 26, 2025
  • Wednesday, December 31, 2025
  • Thursday, January 1, 2026

Outdoor skating in the parks is a wonderful way to enjoy and experience winter in Thunder Bay, especially during the holidays. Everyone is encouraged to come out for some fun at our outdoor skating facilities this season with their family and friends.
