Thunder Bay residents have the chance to learn more and weigh in on a new plan to grow their city.

The City of Thunder Bay is seeking input from members of the public on the new Smart Growth Action Plan it is creating in partnership with other local organizations.

The plan’s goals include expanding Thunder Bay’s tax base, strengthening the local workforce, and attracting new residents.

“The Smart Growth Action Plan is all about building opportunity in Thunder Bay,” said Matthew Pearson, the City’s senior advisor for growth. “As we launch our public engagement, we want to make sure residents are seeing themselves in this plan.”

Residents can find background information, a list of actions currently under consideration for the plan, and a short survey at www.thunderbay.ca/getinvolved. The survey, which closes on July 4, will also be available in hard copy at Thunder Bay Public Library branches. Residents can also share their feedback and growth ideas simply by emailing growth@thunderbay.ca.

The City will also host a pair of town halls later this month to share details of the plan and receive questions and feedback:

  • June 25, 5:30-7:30pm

Mary J.L. Black Public Library

  • June 26, 5:30-7:30pm

Oliver Road Community Centre

A final version of the Smart Growth Action Plan will be presented to City Council for approval in the fall.
