Thunder Bay residents are invited to help shape the future of the city’s water system at an upcoming public meeting.

The drop-in style meeting, known as a Public Information Centre, will take place from 5:00 -7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23 at the Oliver Road Community Centre.

The City of Thunder Bay is currently working to update its Water System Master Plan. Residents are encouraged to attend this meeting to learn more about that process. Attendees will have the opportunity to review the findings of a study supporting this update, learn about potential solutions for the future of Thunder Bay’s water treatment and distribution system, speak with knowledgeable staff members, and provide feedback.

The Water System Master Plan Study currently underway follows the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process and will plan for short-term, medium-term, and long-term water service improvements. This study will produce a roadmap that will guide water treatment and servicing infrastructure investments over the next 20 years.

This process supports the City of Thunder Bay’s Smart Growth Action Plan by helping ensure critical infrastructure is prepared to accommodate future growth. The Water System Master Plan Study advances Action R42 (Infrastructure Capacity for Growth) and will guide long-term investments in water treatment and distribution infrastructure to support a growing and resilient community.
