Beginning Monday, June 29, Thunder Bay Transit will implement a long-term detour affecting Route 12 East End and Route 16 Balmoral due to the City's Pacific Avenue Bridge construction project. The detour is expected to remain in place through late Fall 2026 and be reintroduced again during the 2027 construction season.

Route 16 Balmoral will continue to operate its regular route between City Hall and Confederation College. On return trips, the route will transition into the East End service at Balmoral Avenue and Dease Street rather than continuing to City Hall.

Route 12 East End will operate on a revised route using Main Street and Fort William Road to access the East End while construction is underway. The East End will not be departing from City Hall.

As a result of the detour, several bus stops will be temporarily out of service, and one stop will be temporarily relocated.

Stops Temporarily Out of Service:

Route 12 East End

  • Donald Street & Centennial Square
  • Vickers Street & Victoria Avenue
  • Pacific Avenue & Simpson Street
  • Pacific Avenue & McIntosh Street (both directions)

Route 16 Balmoral

  • Miles Street & Courthouse
  • May Street & Miles Street

Customers may also notice minor adjustments to travel times while buses follow the detour.

The stop at McPherson Street & Connolly Street will be temporarily relocated to Pacific Avenue, just before the McPherson Street intersection beside the church.

Additional temporary stops will be available along Fort William Road to help maintain service during construction.

Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time where possible.
