JUNE 1, 2025

WHEREAS, decades of struggle by workers and their unions have created many health and safety regulations and an employer-funded compensation system for times when those safeguards fail; and

WHEREAS, statistics show that over 300 employees die each year in Ontario because of accidents that occur while they are at work and the reality is that many of these accidents and deaths could have been prevented; and

WHEREAS, every year on June 1, workers gather to recognize sisters and brothers who have been injured or made sick on the job, and to raise their voices for safer workplaces and better treatment of all workers; and

WHEREAS, Injured Workers Day was officially recognized by the Ontario government in 2025; and

WHEREAS, the Ontario Injured Workers Day is an opportunity to recognize the individuals who have suffered injuries and fatalities as a result of their workplace conditions.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, the Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim June 1, 2025 as Injured Workers Day in the City of Thunder Bay.
