Girls from schools across Thunder Bay will gather at Lakehead University’s C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse and Hangar on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, for the third annual INSPIRE – Sport & Health for Life event presented by Tbaytel.

Studies show that one in three girls drop out of sport by the age of 16 compared to one in ten boys.  Additionally, many girls did not return to sport after the pandemic. INSPIRE aims to help reverse these trends.

INSPIRE is an event that connects girls in grade 8 with local sport and activity providers in a fun and interactive format. They will meet leaders and role models, enjoy demonstrations, and participate in various sports and physical activities. Local athlete Victoria Posselwhite will deliver a motivational keynote address. The event also showcases the high school sports available to girls when they enter grade 9 in the fall.

“The aim of INSPIRE is to encourage girls to be active now and throughout their lives,” said Trisha Heino, Sport Development Coordinator. “We want to introduce girls to various sports and other physical activities and promote overall health.”

"Tbaytel is thrilled to be the presenting sponsor for the INSPIRE event," says Agnes Notarbartolo, Tbaytel's Manager of Communication and Brand. "This fantastic initiative offers young women in our community a special opportunity to explore new activities and discover the joys of staying active and healthy. We're proud to help create connections between these young individuals and the wonderful local organizations that support their well-being now and in the future."

Several organizations have partnered to host this event including: the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Lakehead University, Superior Secondary Schools Athletic Association, Giant Gymnastics, and the City of Thunder Bay.

Thank you to Presenting Sponsor Tbaytel and to Subway for serving as the event’s Luncheon Sponsor.
