WHEREAS, in 1977, the United Nations proclaimed March 8 as International Women's Day to commemorate the 145 women killed in a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company in New York City on March 25, 1911; and


WHEREAS, International Women's Day is a time to reflect on the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action; and


WHEREAS, International Women's Day is celebrated annually across the globe to recognize acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their communities; and


WHEREAS, this day is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contribution of women to the success and vitality of our city.


NOW THEREFORE, I, Ken Boshcoff, Mayor of the City of Thunder Bay, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2023 as International Women's Day in the City of Thunder Bay.
