May 22, 2015 - The City of Thunder Bay is encouraging residents of all ages to take part in the 35th annual Kite Festival at Chippewa Park this Sunday, May 24.

This award-winning family event has provided memorable experiences for kite flyers and watchers alike since 1981, and was recently named one of Ontario's top 100 festivals by Festival & Events Ontario.

"Its going to be a great day," says Event Supervisor Doug Henry. "We're all excited to spend the afternoon with our eyes pointed at the sky watching all the colourful kites our Guest Fliers will be bringing this year. We're proud to welcome back representatives from the Toronto Kite Fliers and the Kitchener-Waterloo Windclimbers, who will be flying a stunning variety of giant kites at Chippewa Park."

Kites will be taking flight throughout the event, which runs from 12 noon to 4pm.  On-site activities will include kite-building workshops, make and play areas, outdoor games and giant kite displays.  Families can also enjoy face-painting and balloon animals by the Giggle of Clownz and musical performances by Jim "˜n' I.

Admission is free and Thunder Bay Transit has extended its service to Chippewa Park every 40 minutes from Intercity Mall.
