The City of Thunder Bay’s Live on the Waterfront performance series, presented by Ontario Power Generation, continues this Wednesday, August 6 from 6 pm – 9 pm at Marina Park with a special Maamawe edition.
Maamawe – meaning “all together” – celebrates Indigenous voices, artistry, and connection through an evening of powerful performances by three incredible artists:
- 6:00 pm – Sara Kae: an Ojibwe and Cree artist from Lake Helen First Nation whose powerful voice and storytelling have taken her from Northern Ontario schools to national stages and airwaves. She was recently selected for the Reverie Indigenous Music Residency in Toronto. With a rich blend of indie-pop, lived experience, and cultural pride, she continues to make her mark as a recording artist, performer, and storyteller on her own terms.
- 7:00 pm – Lancelot Knight: Lancelot Knight is a genre-blending singer-songwriter, actor, and activist from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, known for his powerful vocals, electric guitar work, and commanding 6'7" stage presence. A multiple award-winning artist and son of Juno winner Chester Knight, Lancelot uses music to explore Indigenous identity, mental health, and political expression, with his debut solo album set to release later this year.
- 8:00 pm – Nadjiwan: Nadjiwan is a groundbreaking Indigenous rock band led by singer-songwriter Marc Merilainen of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation, blending traditional Indigenous sounds with contemporary rock. Formed in 1993 and a former staple of the Thunder Bay music scene, Nadjiwan’s powerful songs explore identity, history, and cultural resilience, earning them national recognition and a lasting legacy in Indigenous music.
This special Maamawe edition of Live on the Waterfront offers a meaningful opportunity to gather, reflect, and celebrate Indigenous culture and talent in the heart of the city.
Live on the Waterfront continues every Wednesday until August 20, followed by the Live on the Waterfront: Summer Send-Off on August 27 and 28, which will include two spectacular Drone Light Shows in partnership with Thunder Bay International Airports Authority.
Recognized as one of the Top 100 events by Festivals & Events Ontario, Live on the Waterfront brings together music lovers of all ages to celebrate local talent, Canadian artists, and the spirit of summer in Thunder Bay. Bring your lawn chair, grab a bite from local food vendors, and enjoy an unforgettable evening of music, food, and community fun by the lake.
