As construction on the new roundabout continues, the intersection of Cumberland and Water Streets, including the Marina Overpass will be closed to most vehicle traffic beginning Tuesday, July 22.
The closure is necessary to accommodate the next phase of work, and it is expected both the intersection and overpass will remain closed until October.
Detours will be posted.
Access for emergency vehicles and limited truck traffic will be maintained throughout the closure. Motor vehicle access to the waterfront remains available via the Pearl Street entrance, and pedestrian access is available via Camelot Street or the pedestrian overpass.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as we move forward with this important project,” said Brian Newman, Senior Project Engineer. “The new roundabout is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection, and this closure is a necessary step to complete the work.”
Investments like this help lay the groundwork for a more connected and accessible city by improving the everyday experience for residents and visitors, and supporting future growth.
