The City of Thunder Bay has opened a new intake of housing grants providing additional opportunities for developers to build much-needed housing across the community.

Applications will be accepted during this intake period for:

  • The Multi-Unit Residential Grant, which supports projects creating two or more self-contained residential units, and
  • The Construction Assistance Grant, designed to stimulate new residential development in the Strategic Core Areas

Both programs are delivered through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, which has already made a significant impact locally. Since 2024, more than $11.3 million in grants have been committed to developers and homeowners, supporting the creation of 602 new housing units across Thunder Bay.

The next intake is expected to generate further investment, accelerate construction timelines, and contribute to a more diverse and attainable housing supply.

“These programs are creating momentum,” said Joel DePeuter, Director of Development Services. “We’re seeing real results from the Housing Accelerator Fund, and this next intake builds on that success by continuing to support quality projects that are adding much needed housing supply.”
