Work to renew Thunder Bay’s North Core is proceeding to its next phase, with the closure of Red River Road extending to Court Street starting on Tuesday, July 2.

During this phase of construction, Red River Road will be closed to vehicular traffic between Court Street and Cumberland Street.

Pedestrian access to businesses on both sides of Red River Road will remain available.

The intersection of Red River Road and Cumberland Street is expected to reopen by late summer, while work proceeds on other sections of Red River Road.

The North Core Streetscapes project includes the replacement of sewer and watermains on Red River Road and Court Street, as well as significant improvements to streets and sidewalks. The changes will support more public events, patio and vendor space, and improved walkability in the downtown.
