When emergency strikes, will your household be prepared? Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the City of Thunder Bay are sharing resources that can help residents plan for various kinds of emergencies as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.

Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs from May 3-9 this year, promotes the theme “Prepared Together,” highlighting the different types of emergencies that individuals can prepare for.

Although there are many examples online, there are several that are very relevant to individuals in and around Thunder Bay.  Examples of things that households should consider include how to prepare for an emergency, how to prepare your pets for emergencies, and how to prepare for a power outage.

The provincial and federal governments have several online resources to help the public plan for emergencies.  They include:

  • Ontario Emergency Preparedness Week: ontario.ca/page/emergency-preparedness-week
  • Federal Emergency Preparedness Week: canada.ca/en/services/policing/emergencies/preparedness/get-prepared.html

“It’s important that people have an understanding of the types of emergencies they might experience where they live and then have a plan if that emergency should occur,” said Robert Wark, Community Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue encourages people to learn about Emergency Plans and safety by following TBFR on social media, including Instagram (@tbayfirerescue), X (@tbayfirerescue), and Facebook (@tbayfirerescue) for regular tips.
