The City of Thunder Bay is pleased to announce that more than 1,100 people attended this year’s Public Works Open House at Mountdale Yard, marking a tremendous turnout and celebrating a successful conclusion to National Public Works Week 2025.
Residents of all ages came out to enjoy the family-friendly event, which featured interactive displays, City vehicles, games, and more. The Open House offered a fun and educational opportunity for the community to engage with the essential services that support daily life in Thunder Bay.
“This event was an incredible success,” said Amanda Nason, Communications Officer – Infrastructure & Operations. “It was great to see so many people exploring, asking questions, and enjoying everything the day had to offer. It really shows how valued our public works professionals are in our community.”
In addition to the Open House, the City hosted two new facility tours this year: a behind-the-scenes look at the Water Treatment Plant and a Fire Station 3 Open House. Both were well attended and provided valuable insight into the vital work done to ensure clean water and public safety.
Public Works Week, recognized across North America from May 18 to 24, is dedicated to raising awareness and appreciation for the services and professionals that keep communities running. Thunder Bay’s celebrations reflected this mission, combining education, outreach, and fun for the whole family.
