May 10, 2016 - On Wednesday, May 11 Sewer and Water North will conduct tests at the Chamberlain Pumping Station as part of an ongoing upgrade. Beginning at 9am, several distribution valves will be closed, temporarily isolating the Chamberlain Pumping Station from the water distribution system.
As a result of this work, residents in the Chamberlain Street, Shuniah Street, and Margaret Street area may notice discoloured water coming from their taps starting at 9 am and continuing through most of the day. The isolation is not expected to affect water pressure or taste.
City crews will work to flush the discoloured water from the system once the valves are reopened. However, residents are advised to follow the steps below if they notice their water is discoloured.
- Do not open any HOT water taps.
- Open only one COLD water tap (a tap that does not have a water filter system attached to it) and allow the water to flow at a medium flow until the water runs clear.
- Once the single COLD water tap is running clear, open all other taps including HOT water taps and flush until all water runs clear.
Running cold water taps for five minutes should clear any discoloured water. If discolouration returns, please repeat steps 1 to 3.
If the water does not clear after following the procedure above, residents can contact Infrastructure & Operations Dispatch at 625-2195.
