Residents are invited to participate in two upcoming Arbor Day events, celebrating the vital role trees play in our community while helping to grow Thunder Bay’s tree canopy.
- Saturday, May 25: The City of Thunder Bay will host an Arbor Day event in Westfort, planting trees along the Woodward Trail. The group will meet at the Westfort Playfield parking lot and proceed along the trail east from Neebing Avenue.
- Saturday, June 1: The City will host a second Arbor Day event at County Fair Park. The group will meet at the park entrance across from Renfrew Road and plant trees throughout the park.
The events begin at 10 a.m. with greetings and instructions, with planting starting around 10:30 a.m. and continuing until 2 p.m.
Attendees will have the chance to help plant trees, meet neighbours, and learn from the City’s urban forestry professionals. Light refreshments will be provided.
The City’s Urban Forestry division chose planting locations where the tree canopy needs our help to become established. The new plantings will provide shade in public areas, improve stormwater management, and help replace trees recently removed due to Emerald Ash Borer infestation.
