The City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that the new Waterfront Transit Terminal is now expected to open in mid- to late April. While substantial progress has been made, additional delays related to outstanding materials and supply chain challenges have extended the construction timeline.
“We acknowledge that this project has taken longer than anticipated, and we recognize the impact this has had on transit riders,” said Bobbi Tait, Supervisor – Capital Facility Construction. “We sincerely apologize for the continued delays and appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by the public. Our focus remains on completing the terminal safely and to a high standard so it can serve the community well for years to come.”
Interior work is nearing completion, and crews continue to advance the project wherever possible. However, some exterior components and finishing materials are still pending delivery. Once these materials arrive, additional time will be required to complete installation and final inspections before the facility can safely open to the public.
Throughout this period, the City remains focused on maintaining safe and accessible temporary transit operations. Snow clearing, shelter maintenance, and site upkeep will continue to support riders until the new terminal is ready to open.
The City looks forward to welcoming the public to the completed facility this spring and will share further information as the opening date approaches.
