The City of Thunder Bay is advising the public that Cumberland Street, from McVicar Street to Howe Street, is fully closed starting today for major infrastructure work, including the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Cumberland Street and Water Street.

The closure will remain in effect until the fall to allow for the installation of new sewer and water infrastructure, along with full road and sidewalk reconstruction throughout the area. While Water Street remains open at this time, all vehicle and pedestrian access is restricted within the closed section of Cumberland Street.

In the coming weeks, the closure will extend south to Villa Street, and eventually to Tupper Street, as the project progresses. Updated notices will be shared throughout the process.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use alternate routes and follow all posted signage. The City thanks the public for their understanding and cooperation during this important infrastructure improvement project.
