This spring there will be two Leaf & Yard Waste curbside collections. The first will take place between May 12 and 22, and the second four weeks later between June 9 and 19 - on residents’ regular recycling days.
“Residents have embraced the two Spring and two Fall Leaf & Yard Waste collections,” said Jason Sherband, Manager of Solid Waste & Recycling Services. “The result has been outstanding, with a 42% increase in leaf and yard waste diverted from the landfill with the program expansion. The additional pickup gives residents more time to do their yard clean-ups.”
Only kraft paper bags will be accepted for leaf and yard waste. Bags are available at most hardware and grocery stores. Each filled bag must weigh less than 18 kg (40 lbs.).
Residents may also leave branches and brush at the curb for collection. Bundles of branches must be less than one metre (39 inches) long and 61 cm (24 inches) in diameter, tied with twine.
There is no limit on the number of bags for Leaf & Yard waste curbside collection. Residents must place the waste at the curb before 7 am on their regular recycling day, as indicated on their waste collection calendars.
