May 8, 2026 -  If you know a woman whose role in Thunder Bay’s history should be celebrated, the City Archives is accepting submissions for its Women’s History Month exhibit starting Monday, May 11. The exhibit, launched in 2013, celebrates women who have contributed to Thunder Bay’s history.

“I encourage everyone to help us recognize a woman who has made a meaningful impact in our community,” said Christina Wakefield, City Archivist. “We would also like to celebrate the diversity of our city by hearing and honouring the stories of Indigenous women and women of colour who enrich our lives. Contributions can include those made in the arts, business, government, community life, diversity, or any other aspect of our city’s development.”

Submissions from the community must be submitted by July 1, 2026, to be considered. To qualify, submissions must include a brief biography highlighting the individual’s significance to Thunder Bay along with some images.

Submissions can be emailed to archives@thunderbay.ca or submitted by mail to:

Successful submissions will be added to the online exhibit this October, in celebration of Women’s History Month.
