Learn How Local Democracy Works at Election Information Night

Residents who are interested in learning more about being a potential candidate, election worker, or voter in the upcoming 2026 municipal election, or are just curious about how municipal elections work, are invited to attend an upcoming Election Information Night.

The free, in-person event will take place on Wednesday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the 55 Plus Centre on River St.

The evening will begin with a short, high-level presentation, followed by an open and informal opportunity to speak directly with City staff, ask questions, and learn more about different ways to get involved.

Information will be available for anyone interested in:

• Running for municipal office
• Working during the election, including paid election-day roles
• Voting, and understanding how the election process works

“Municipal elections shape the decisions that affect our community every day, and they work best when people feel informed and included,” said Krista Power, City Clerk and Returning Officer for the 2026 Municipal Election. “Getting involved shouldn’t feel intimidating, and we are trying to make the election process, and the idea of running for office as accessible as possible.”

While the next municipal election is not until October 26, and the nomination period has not yet opened, the session is intended as an early, low-pressure opportunity to learn and explore.

“Whether you’ve ever wondered what it takes to run for office, are interested in working on election day, or just want to better understand how voting works, this session is about increasing your understanding of how cities and their council’s function,” said Crystal DePeuter, Election Coordinator. “There’s no registration required, and all residents are welcome to attend.”

Election Information Night is expected to be the only in-person election information session offered ahead of the next municipal election; there will be a specific session offered in April for potential candidates.
