The tenth annual respect. Award recipients were announced during the Diversity Thunder Bay Celebration today, with the honour going to one individual and one local organization. Update on City’s Winter Operations for Road Maintenance

As a result of yesterday’s winter storm event, the City of Thunder Bay’s Roads Section is working hard to clear and maintain the City’s roads and sidewalks.

Thunder Bay received approximately 30 - 50 cm of wet and heavy snow coupled, with high winds creating drifting in some areas. Rural roads received higher amounts of snow than in urban areas. An additional 5 cm of snow with the potential for ice pellets is forecast for today.

Garbage and Recycling Collection Cancelled Today

Due to severe weather conditions, both garbage and recycling collection is suspended for today. 

Residents who normally receive their collection on Wednesdays, will receive their collection on Saturday, March 26. 

Thursday and Friday garbage and recycling collection days will remain the same. 

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Mask mandates to be lifted, more service counters open

Starting March 21, the Government of Ontario will drop the mandatory mask mandate in the majority of public settings, including city facilities. Mandates will still remain in place for a period of time for public transit, long-term care and health care settings.

Regulations have also been dissolved around gathering restrictions and the vaccination passport. In addition, formal screening measures will no longer be required as of March 21, with the exceptions of Long-Term Care.
