The ability to plant your favourite perennials or annuals on your boulevard could be a reality by next summer if the Boulevard Garden and Maintenance By-law is approved by City Council.
Before that can happen, the City will collect feedback on the proposed By-law. The draft By-law is available for review, with comments incorporated into a final report and presented to City Council.
The current draft By-law will set limits on plant height, hard objects on boulevards, raised planters and the need for signage if edible plants are in the boulevard. Additionally, the creation of a registration system for boulevard gardens will be implemented in the future.
“We have already heard from various stakeholders on this By-law, which has the ability to help beautify Thunder Bay, and help us achieve our climate goals,” said Danielle Thom, Climate Action Specialist.
“We need to hear from the public and their thoughts on this specific By-law.”
Gardeners who want to comment on the draft By-law can attend a drop-in session on Saturday, October 5 at the Thunder Bay Country Market, on the CLE Grounds from 8 am until 1 pm.
An online survey is also available at www.thunderbay.ca/getinvolved. The survey will remain open for comment until October 17. Paper copies of the survey are also available at City Hall.
